Play Rift Content on Quest with Oculus Link Available Now in Beta

At OC6, we introduced Oculus Link—a new way to access Rift games and experiences from a gaming PC on Oculus Quest. Today, we’re excited to share that Oculus Link software is rolling out in beta, so you can now enjoy AAA PC VR games like Asgard’s Wrath and Stormland on Quest. Oculus Link lets you explore the richness of the Rift content library when connected to a PC, while keeping the untethered portability of Quest on the go—the choice is yours.

As the VR ecosystem grows, developers continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible by leveraging the full power of a gaming PC on Rift. And while Rift S offers the highest fidelity gaming experience available, Oculus Quest is making it easier to get into VR than ever before. Oculus Link adds new depth and breadth to the experiences you can have with Quest while also helping PC developers reach the broadest possible audience for their work.

Oculus Link software will work with most high-quality USB 3 cables. To use Oculus Link starting today, Quest owners who own a compatible gaming PC can simply plug their headset into a USB 3 port, then use the Oculus desktop app to browse and purchase Rift apps and games to play on Quest—plus access Rift’s Oculus Home and Dash. Click here [LINK] to learn more about the cable and PC specs you’ll need for best results during the beta period. We aim to support most PCs within the recommended specifications for Oculus Rift and Rift S by the time we exit beta, and we’re continuing to test and optimize during the beta. We’ll add support for more systems in the coming weeks.

Later this year, we’ll release a premium, custom optical fiber cable to provide a best-in-class experience with maximum throughput while using Oculus Link. It will be 5 meters (16+ feet) long to provide more freedom of movement than any other cable on the market. We’ll start rolling out our cable with limited quantities in select regions this year and continue to expand availability in 2020. We’re also releasing the Oculus Link cable specs [LINK] today to help our community make informed buying decisions and let other companies evaluate whether to make comparable cables in the future.

We’re excited to improve the Oculus Quest experience and also give more people access to the amazing content that the Rift Platform has to offer, like Asgard’s Wrath and Stormland. With more people to play with, multiplayer PC VR just got more social.

Quest owners should also be sure to check out the other updates that recently arrived with the latest Quest software update, like improved search to help you find great content and the new Environments feature that lets you change the world that surrounds you while in Oculus Home. Check out the release notes to learn more, and stay tuned for even more new features and improvements in the coming months.
