Sacred Heart University Adds Virtual Reality Component for Online Master’s Degree in Communication

It is the first virtual reality-enhanced
communication degree in North America

Sacred Heart University’s online master’s program for strategic communication and public relations (SCPR) now features virtual reality coursework to provide immersive learning opportunities and improve student engagement.

As the first virtual reality-enhanced communication degree in North America, the SCPR master’s program readies students to navigate and leverage key technologies through project-based learning.

“Sacred Heart is leading the way in public relations education with this innovative program, which prepares students to succeed as professionals in public relations, advertising and digital marketing,” said Candace Parrish, program director and assistant professor, regarding the SCPR online master’s program. “We’ve developed a progressive, forward-thinking program that incorporates cutting-edge technologies to deliver an unparalleled experience for online learners.”

Students in the program receive a Facebook Oculus Quest headset to connect with instructors and peers through avatars. Coursework highlights the intersection of communication and technology, with students learning to develop effective multimedia campaigns and apply new and emerging media to public relations and digital advertising strategies. Additionally, students create their own agency and develop a growth management strategy to ensure success.

Because the 36-credit program incorporates a flexible, online format, students can study anywhere and complete their degree in as few as two years. Graduates are skilled experts who have a comprehensive portfolio for 21st-century public relations and advertising careers.

This program is enrolling for the summer 2021 term. To learn more about SHU’s online master’s in SCPR program, visit the webpage.
