Special Online VR Filmfest This Weekend: Feb. 10-12
AltspaceVR and Cyberia are teaming up to present a new kind of film festival – one taking place entirely in virtual reality VR. Styled after conventional film festivals, audience members can choose from a curated schedule of 38 short films of assorted genres from all over the world. AltspaceVR is a leading social VR platform and Cyberia has over a decade of experience planning film festivals.

We will present a curated schedule of 38 short films of assortment of genres from all over the world. Films screen every half or quarter-hour, with moderated filmmaker Q & A sessions following selected screenings. Conversation will be muted during the screenings, but the audience is encouraged to converse with one another between films, just as they would in a traditional theater.

Films screen every half or quarter-hour, with moderated filmmaker Q&A sessions following selected screenings. Anyone in the world can join with compatible VR equipment (Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, or Samsung Gear VR) or in display mode on PC or Mac.

Highlights include:
- At 6 pm (PST) on February 10th, the festival will open with The Suit, winner of the award for Best Film Overall at SF.
- IndieFest’s genre festival, Another Hole in the Head Director Dave Conte will be joining the program for Q & A after the screening
- New Soul, a fantasy directed by Michael Fry, creator of Over the Hedge, and featuring actor/comedian Larry Miller
- Riptide Rhapsody, an intricate paper cut-out animation which was seven years in the making. Winner for Best Animation at both Woodland Film Festival and Chicago Reel Shorts, and a Platinum winner at Spotlight Short Film Awards
- Quenottes (Pearlies), a live-action/animation combination from the team responsible for the Oscar-winning Mr Hublot
- Smirnoff Sound Collective – Tribes (Episode 3): Dirtybird, a new documentary taking a behind the-scenes look at the members of DIRTYBIRD, an American house record label originally based out of San Francisco, and now Los Angeles.
- Goutte d’Or, an animated film hailed as a masterpiece by such notables as Harry Selick (Coraline; A Nightmare Before Christmas) and Oscar winner Borge Ring
