VR Black Friday Alert: Clear Pricing Information
There have been a number of stories posted in the last couple of days touting forthcoming Black Friday specials for both the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift. If you’ve been holding off on investing in a high-end headset, then this weekend may be the time to pull the trigger. But beware, because depending on where you purchase it, you may save $100 on your total bill, or you’ll receive a $100 credit to purchase more merchandise. The difference could impact your budget.
Directly from HTC’s website, they’re offering a $100 discount off the purchase of a Vive this weekend. And from what can be gleamed, if you purchase it from Newegg, Amazon or from HTC direct, you should save $100 on your purchase. However, if purchased through the Microsoft Store, you’ll receive a $100 credit. If anyone learns differently, please shoot me an email, and I’ll update this post appropriately.
Beyond hardware, HTC has some good deals as well this weekend to help you build your VR software library. Again, refer to their official post for the most accurate information.
Directly from the Oculus website, they make it very clear that if you’re purchasing a Rift this weekend, you’ll receive a $100 store credit. No where have I found that you’ll save a $100 on your purchase. Again, if anyone learns differently, please shoot me an email, and I’ll update this post appropriately.
As far as software is concerned, we haven’t found any special discount offers over the weekend.
Avegant Glyph
The Glyph currently retails for $549. We’ve seen a number of stories touting that it will be 20% for Black Friday. From what we can find, this discount should be available at Amazon for $439. We haven’t found any confirmation of this pricing on Avegant’s website or elsewhere.
If you come across any great VR hardware and software finds during the coming days, shoot us a note, and we’ll add it to the post.
